Scholarly Publishing Drop-In Hour

Scholarly Publishing Drop-In Hour Online

This drop-in session is for any member of the Graduate Center community with questions about scholarly publishing or other aspects of scholarly communication. Topics you can stop by to discuss include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Article publication contracts
  • Book publication contracts
  • Copyright or fair use
  • Creative Commons licenses
  • Open access (how to find OA scholarship, how to make your scholarship OA)
  • CUNY Academic Works and other open access repositories
  • Deceptive ("predatory") journals, conferences, and book publishers
  • Research metrics (Journal Impact Factor, h-index, altmetrics, etc.)
  • Academia.edu / ResearchGate (what’s good, what’s bad, what’s ugly)
  • Claiming your ORCID iD, Google Scholar Profile, etc.

Advance registration is not required, but you'll be asked to fill out the registration form when entering the session. If someone else is being assisted when you arrive, you may be asked to wait in the “waiting room.”

Have a question but can’t make the drop-in session? Email Jill Cirasella, Scholarly Communication Librarian and University Liaison, at jcirasella@gc.cuny.edu to discuss over email or set up a one-on-one consultation.
